Miss Dee's PE & Health Website

We are looking forward to an exciting year of physical education.  Our goal is to improve personal fitness, knowledge of physical activity, cooperation and sportsmanship.  Students need to be physically active not only in PE class but at home as well.

Rules
In order to ensure a safe and educational environment for all students, I have established the following guidelines for my PE classes.
1. All students MUST wear gym shoes (sneakers) and PE T-Shirt.
2. Students MUST remove all jewelry before participating in PE due to safety reasons. I cannot be responsible for lost or stolen jewelry.
3. Student will be asked to follow directions given the first time, keep hands and feet to themselves and to move about the area with body control.
4. Students may NOT chew gum or candy or bring other items to class, unless instructed to do so.
5. Students are expected to respect each other and the equipment.
6. Students NOT are allowed in the PE shed at any time.
7. Students will not be excused from PE class unless they have a medical note signed by a doctor or a written note from their parent.
8. Students will respect themselves, others and teachers.

Assessments
We will also be conducting beginning assessments and end of the year assessments to show the students/parents their fitness levels and documentation of improvement over time.  They will be assessed in the following areas:
Aerobic - Students will do a paced run for the designated distance.
Flexibility - The sit and reach test will be used to assess the flexibility of the student.
Abdominal - The sit up test will be used to measure the abdominal strength and endurance of the student.  This test will be performed for one minute.
Upper body - The push up or pull up test will be used to measure upper body strength and endurance.  Students will perform as many push as possible in one minute.

Grading
Grading for PE class will be based on the following components:
1.  Attendance
2.  Being prepared (gym shoes, uniform, jewelry removed)
3.  Participating in all activities
4.  Sportsmanship (effort, attitude, and cooperation)
5.  Following directions and safety rules
6.  Performance on skill and written tests – middle school

If a student is absent he/she will have the opportunity to make up the time, just like any other class.  I will have slips available to be taken home and signed by a parent/coach documenting 30 minutes of physical activity.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support,

Miss Dee
